From Learning, to text, to the screen...

Hello, my name is Eric Cody Smothers, creator of Montage Alive. This project is meant to create a visually rich, atmospheric, but importantly educational environment for students, teachers, filmmakers, and artists to begin thinking of composition and writing in new ways.

Montage Alive began as a multi-modal presentation to accompany a final research project which discusses the essential importance of the use of montage in texts, film, and the classroom. Montage Alive  has developed into an exploration of alternative writing styles essential for the adaptation of English studies to multiple disciplines and to show the written language continues to have meaning. Montage Alive, therefore, should be just as adaptive and visual as the subject matter it discusses.

Within this site, I draw from a wide variety of academic, educational, and entertainment related sources in order to demonstrate that the Montage is not simply a process or technical word but "montage theory" embodies a style of its own, a revolutionary insight into the changing landscapes of the human mind towards education, text, and film. The goal is malleability over stagnation, visual awareness over blind dependence on form, the creation of meaning over a swamp of text.
